Early Life and Career

Nellie Bly was born Elizabeth Jane Cochrane in Cochran's Mills, Pennsylvania, in 1864. She began her career as a journalist in 1885, when she wrote an article for the Pittsburgh Dispatch about the working conditions of female factory workers. The article was a sensation, and Bly quickly became one of the most popular journalists in the country.

Undercover at Blackwell's Island

In 1887, Bly went undercover at Blackwell's Island, a mental institution in New York City. She posed as a mentally ill patient in Free Download to expose the horrific conditions inside the institution. Bly's articles about her experience at Blackwell's Island shocked the public and led to a major investigation of the institution.

Around the World in 72 Days

In 1889, Bly set out to beat the record for the fastest around-the-world trip. She completed the journey in just 72 days, becoming the first woman to travel around the world alone.

Later Life and Legacy

Bly continued to work as a journalist until her death in 1922. She wrote extensively about women's rights, social justice, and the need for reform.
