Betsy Ross was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1752. Her father was a ship's carpenter and her mother was a stay-at-home mom. Betsy had four brothers and sisters. She grew up in a Quaker family, which meant that she was taught to be honest, hardworking, and peaceful.

Betsy's father died when she was young, so she had to help her mother support the family. She learned to sew at a young age and became a skilled seamstress. In 1773, she married John Ross, a cabinetmaker. They had two daughters together.

In 1776, the American Revolution began. Betsy's husband joined the Continental Army and she was left to run the family business on her own. One day, she was approached by George Washington, who asked her to sew a flag for the new nation. Betsy agreed and she set to work immediately.

Betsy used her skills as a seamstress to create a beautiful flag. She used red, white, and blue fabric, and she arranged the stars in a circle. The flag was a huge success and it became the official flag of the United States in 1777.

Betsy Ross continued to make flags throughout her life. She also made other items for the Continental Army, such as uniforms and tents. She was a true patriot and she was proud to serve her country.

Betsy Ross died in Philadelphia in 1836. She was 84 years old. She is buried in the Friends Burying Ground in Philadelphia.

Betsy Ross was a remarkable woman who made a significant contribution to American history. She was a skilled seamstress, a patriot, and a role model for women everywhere.
