Tresca was born in Sulmona, Italy, in 1879. He came to the United States in 1904 and quickly became involved in the labor movement. He was a delegate to the founding convention of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) in 1905, and he later served as the editor of the IWW's newspaper, Solidarity.
